MAGICK MONKEY
There’s a monkey in the wormhole
in the Hall of the Mountain Mirrors
making faces at bug-eyed pilgrims
mimicking their hopes and fears.
There’s a monkey in the wormhole
polishing infinity mirrors
guarding the gates to the inner realms
laughing away our tears.
Playing with theater projections
of what we would appear to be
these image laden reflections
the monkey clearly sees
angles, planes, and wedges
armored strong against defeat
burdened by the weight of ego
impacting on our blessed feet.
We’re tired of playing vanity chess
on the surface of the mirror
putting up with the magick monkey
mocking all our hopes and fears
and when we arrive at the junction point
where we can take these antics no more
the monkey becomes a gentleman
and opens up the temple door.
Passing through the mirror surface
beyond the world of games
escaping the trap of the mountain lure
and the spell of the product names
casting off the cloak of inflexible form
untying the knot of death
taking the wormhole to wonderland
the place we all love best.
Past lives flicker before our eyes
passing through each disguise
until we finally realize
that it is good to come to peaceful rest
discharged, relaxed, at our best.
